TRAIN LIKE A MIXED MARTIAL ARTS ATHLETE

What is MMA about?

Mixed Martial Arts Hampton, VAMixed Martial Arts is a sport in which two competitors strive to defeat each other by striking or by the use of submission techniques. In our program we focus on all the above on a Self Defense & Fitness Level first and Competition second. Mixed Martial Arts Submission was originally based on one style of Martial Arts against the other, but so many of the fighters were doing a lot of the same thing. Here at the Rodney Cheeseman Karate & MMA Studio, we have put a system of the best striking, take down, and submission techniques together on a Self Defense & Fitness Level to ensure Total Fitness and Self Protection for men and women of all ages and professions.

The Different Areas of our MMA Program:

  • Stand up Thai Boxing with Power Knee Strikes, Elbow Strikes, Punches and Kicks
  • Clinch Techniques followed with strong fast Kodokan Judo take downs to get someone off you in a clinching or grabbing situation (Self Defense or Self Protection).
  • Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to help you handle yourself on the ground by wrestling and submission technique for ground control.

In MMA and Traditional Martial Art Systems, everything is taught slightly different. In our program we teach you to stand natural and be ready to adapt to a fast changing situation through Sport Fitness Self Defense Drills, for Self Protection or Competition. Our main focus is you the person and all aspects of what you are trying to accomplish. Mixed Martial Arts is primarily recognized on a Professional Level, this is not the case here. It has been widely used in the military for many years, but because of the rise of the (UFC), Fighting Systems are used now for different levels of Self Defense training. Here our program is for all Men and Women who prefer the fast aggressive training of Mixed Martial Arts Submission. You personally can learn to Flip, Strike, or even Submit someone if you have to. Our MMA program is designed for everyone 15 years and up to accomplish their own personal goals.

Mixed Martial Arts History

Mixed Martial Arts Submission dates back to 648 BC by the Greek Pankration which was entered into the Olympics. During the late 1800′s when Modern Traditional Martial Arts were banned from training, “Judo” was created, a form of training that comes from Jiu-Jitsu. The Kodokan System of Judo is one most dynamic forms of self defense recognized to date. With the rebirth of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu introduced by the Gracie Family in 1993 the sport of Mixed Martial Arts has taken off to new heights and in a new direction. A lot of Martial Artists start putting together their own elite fighting systems for the more aggressive student. Here at the Rodney Cheeseman Karate and MMA Studio, our fighting system is taught on a Self Defense & Fitness Level for anyone and everyone who wants to get in shape and learn the best moves of the UFC. Men, Women, Doctors, Lawyers, School Teachers or whatever your profession is, our program will meet all of your needs and then some.
